I think the "Bird and Trout" is probably one of the most useful non-pocketknife traditional patterns, at least for me I fish and hunt small game several magnitudes more often than large game, and small hunting knives seem to be the forgotten middle child of the traditional knife family between folders and big bowies
  • Bird Trout knife opinions needed | Bushcraft USA Forums
Bird and Trout happens to be my favourite pattern, so I'll start with this Japanese Fisherman's Knife Blade is three inches, very slim without being flexible, and extremely sharp Handle gives a lovely secure grip, especially with the little flare at the base for your little finger to sit up against Much more handle than blade And the whole thing beautifully made Others will prefer

  • Bird and Trout? - Bushcraft USA Forums
I having a sneaking suspicion a “bird and trout” knife was a term coined by enterprising knife makers to sell modified paring knives to the rising middle class fishermen and bird hunters at the time

Total overall length is 7 1 4" and the blade is 3 3 4" long I also found an image of it on the internet and it was labeled bird trout knife I also took note there is a difference in the grind between between victoratsea's knife and mine I did some rooting around on the internet about the history of Western knives
  • A. G. Russell B T what else compares? - BladeForums. com
Hi, I've been looking at the A G Russell Bird and Trout in D2 The things that I like about this knife are: - the full flat grind - the thin blade stock 060" (1 16") - carbon steel blade - under $75 00 (my price range) - the sheath options are also nice (want a fixed blade) The

Grohmann's version of a Bird Trout I don't do Quail or Trout anymore , but I still find it a very useful knife Harry One of my favourite smaller fixed knives, really versatile and a good food prep knife on a picnic etc Mine's flat ground too and makes a difference! Think CelloDan has a really beautiful Stag slabbed one I admire a lot

  • Tops Bird and Trout knife - Bushcraft USA Forums
I am afraid they are really unimpressive and overpriced $130 gets you an overbuilt paring knife Little trout like rainbows and Brookies need a small delicate blade as do small birds like dove and quail You can pick up a Victorinox for $9-30 and it will run circles around the tops

This Queen City model 82 (1925-1945) is a very handy knife with fish and fowl (and rabbits); the Queen Steel model 52 (1958-1960) has yet to cut fin, feather, fur or flesh, but it would handle them just fine, I believe (though I prefer a fixed blade for fish)
